Whom it may concern,

We are writing to inquire whether you would be interested in considering representing us as an agent for our proposed book “Cyndy’s Blessed Assurance.” There are very few books on death, when it comes to losing a child in the middle years of childhood. There are more books out for parents that have miscarriages, stillbirths or die immediately after the birth, then when a child dies from serious illness or sudden unexpected deaths. Some parents and siblings never get over it and others in desperation turn away from God instead of to God. Yet with God, there is hope of recovery. Our God does lessen the pain and makes life bearable for us to go on with His everlasting love, if we put our hands into His hands; He will make our walk more bearable down the dark lonesome valley of death.

Cyndy’s Blessed Assurance is about a severely handicapped child that touched lives without saying one word yet her actions spoke volumes. She touched the lives not only of her family but also of her doctors, nurses, teachers, bus drivers and other ones that briefly crossed her path. Cyndy showed the love of Christ with her gentle caring spirit with unconditional love, of giving smiles and kisses without asking for any love in return. In her death, she left an eternal lasting impression on her neurologist, Dr. Larry E. White, MD. Even almost thirteen years later, just the mere thought of Cyndy stirs up memories of her unconditional love, determination and strength that still carries on.

The song “Blessed Assurance” could not have paraphrased Cyndy’s life in any better words. The manuscript is 90,000-word nonfiction Christian memoir that is being written by Mother and Doctor about a little girl’s life and death. It is a love story of a mother, father, and doctor that lives have been change forever-over night.

Cyndy’s Blessed Assurance is geared to help other parents who are facing death of a child or have faced death of a child find God’s ever-lasting love in the midst of life and death situations, by helping them find peace in the eye of the storm. There is hope after a death of a child with God.
Philip. 4:11-13 (ESV)
“Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. I can do all things through him who strengthens me.”

What can be said about a child that was about not to be? Little Cyndy Harrell was a child that was almost aborted when her twin died 10 weeks into her Mom’s pregnancy. It was by the grace of God that Her Mom’s doctor took a second look at an ultrasound before doing a D&E. Mom’s pregnancy was plagued with medical issues continually until Cyndy was born prematurely six weeks early. Cyndy had several serious medical issues at birth but God was good to her parents and she came home when she was two weeks old. Life was normal for what Mom and Dad and doctors thought until Cyndy turned six months old when she nearly died.
It was about four days before Mother’s day when Cyndy woke her parents up with a blood-curdling scream. Neither Mom nor Dad knew what was happening to Cyndy when she went limp as a rag doll in her father’s arms from a life threatening seizure. This seizure was just the beginning of problems that compounded crises that eventually took her life at the age of 11 years old.
The Lord became the center of the parent’s life. When Cyndy’s little body was plagued with several medical life-threatening situations, the only one they could call on was the Lord to heal and watch over their little girl. Cyndy touched lives in profound ways over the eleven years of her doctors, and nurses and others. God used a mute child to spread the gospel. Cyndy showed the love of Christ by loving others with out asking for love in return. Cyndy unconditional love affected her doctors so heavy that they all wanted to do something for her in return by being her pallbears when she died.
Over the years Cyndy’s life had an impact on the life and practice of her neurologist Dr. Larry White, that he teamed up with Mom to tell the story of a little girl who even after almost thirteen years in the grave is still touching lives from beyond the grave. Mom and Dr. White wanted to tell their story and hopefully other parents will see how the Lord can help parents survive a tragic death of a child, yet know with the strength of God every parent can pull through the death and live again with the hope of seeing their child when they are called home. The time we are away from our child is just a short time when we look at eternity is forever. Cyndy wanted people to see that even doctors have tender hearts and have feelings when a child dies in their care.
Little Cyndy Harrell’s death was just the beginning of problems to come when the parents lost the other five children, when social services thought they had killed Cyndy. At that same time, the parents were walking on eggshells Dr. White was under scrutiny when Cyndy’s drug levels came back fifteen times the legal limit. Thank God, the levels that were called into question were false readings.
If the parents and Dr. White have learned anything from Cyndy’s death, God has shown them His undivided love, while bringing them closer to Him in a way that they never have known.
Cyndy’s death was for not. Cyndy died to get the attention her brothers needed to be able to function in the world with help. Cyndy showed people that God’s love is so unconditional. It has been 13 years since Cyndy died and she is a live as much as she was when she died. Her spirit lives on in our hearts. The song “Blessed Assurance” could not have described Cyndy’s life and her motto concerning the Lord’s love any better. As Cyndy would say, “this is my story; this is my song, praising my Savior all the day long.”

The assurance that Cyndy has now that she is with our Heavenly Father we can all have if we put our hand into the hand of the Lord blindly and trusting God when we don’t know what tomorrow will bring.

Of
Anne H. Harrell
and
Larry E. White, MD.

When the Lord called Anne Harrell to be His servant in February 1983, Anne had no idea what The Lord had called her to do. Anne went into serving the Lord blindly, answering the Lord with “what ever you will have me to do Lord I will do.” God blessed Anne when she married her husband and soul mate Mark in April of 1983 after meeting him six weeks earlier.
Mark and Anne began their walk as a couple open to where ever the Lord will call them to go or to show the love of the Lord. It came apparent what God was asking them to do when Anne gave birth to their first child, Mark Jr. in August of 1984. Mark was born with a cleft lip, but that was not the only underlying problem Mark Jr. would have. Mark was severely autistic.
Usually families with handicapped children usually have maybe one child with disabilities not multiple children. Anne and Mark went on about building their family. Their next child was a little girl was born in October of 1985 that had health problems that is issues that are more serious that started early in Anne’s pregnancy. These medical problems ended up taken Cyndy’s life when she was 11 years of age.
Anne and Mark did not stop there they went on to have four more children after Cyndy. Richard, their third child was born in August of 1987 is also autistic but is the mildest of all five of the disabled children. Their second daughter, fourth child, Katie was born in April of 1990, is the only child that is normal. In March of 1991 the third son, fifth child Buddy was born and is moderately autistic. In September of 1994, Joel their fourth son and sixth child was born prematurely, and is profoundly handicapped. As you see, Mark and Anne’s hand are full of children with multiple disabilities.

In the fall of 2000, The Lord called for Anne to write a book on the life and death of their oldest daughter Cyndy, with Cyndy’s neurologist, Dr. Larry E. White. Anne is also a full time student at Ashford University, double majoring for her Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Communications and Psychology and will graduate in the spring of 2013. Anne is a member of Calvary Presbyterian Church in Norfolk, Virginia.
