The Begaining of Cyndy's Blessed Assurance
how the book got started
The birth of Cyndy's Blessed Assurance:
Cyndy's Blessed Assurance first got under way under the working title of "All For The Love Of Cyndy".
The Lord had been laying on my heart for a number of years about writing a book on the blessing that Handicapped children can be. I had dragged my feet for a while with telling the Lord every time He laid it on my heart no. I kept telling the Lord that "I am not a writer". "Why use me to write the book?" The Lord was not letting up on His call for me to write a book.
Finally after rejecting the Lord for several months, I thought about giving in to the Lord and writing the book. With in a few days I had begun putting an out line together but stopped. I had lost interest in writing about dealing with children with mild to severe disabilities. I put the book up for a while when Cyndy died from a seizure on New Years day of 1997.
Three years after the death of Cyndy, The Lord had laid the burden on me again about writing a book this time on the life and death of Cyndy and how the Lord had given my husband and myself the grace to keep living after the untimely death. Again, I wanted to say no Lord, I just don't think I could write a book nor did I want to sit down and remember the memories that were very painful of Cyndy's life and death, especially the grief of Cyndy's death.
Saying no to God was not in my best of interest because, there was going to be no rest for the weary. Feeling restless, I realized that I wasn't going to have any peace in my heart until I gave in and started working on writing this book. When I went looking for books for myself to help deal with Cyndy's death, I realized that there wasn't many books dealing with the death of a child. There were books on miscarriages but not on losing a child with some age. A burden was laid on my heart to Begin writing. That is when I said yes Lord I will write the book.
When I realized that God was calling me to write, I shared my idea with Pastor Mark Bender. We begun to pray about the book for a while. Gina Tuck had been laid on my heart to ask her to get me started on writing the book with her guidance. Gina put a lot into the book correcting my errors and keeping me on task. Gina put an out line together and encourage me to follow her outline.
We Begin to pray about which of or how many of Cyndy's doctors we could get involved with the book. Dr. Garrison gave me Cyndy's chart to look over and tried to get information to help and left the door open to help where ever he could. I had called Dr. White on a Wednesday and asked when he finish with his patients that day or one day soon could I come up and talk with him about something. I think Dr. White thought I was coming up to asked questions about Cyndy's death since I had taken the way she died hard.
When Dr. White came into the room he asked the question of what can he do to help see me heal from Cyndy's death. That is when I told him about wanting to write a book on Cyndy's life and death and the impact she had on people. Dr White didn't let me get the question out of my mouth quick enough when he quickly spoke up that he would help me write the book.
Over the next ten years Dr. White encouraged me to keep writing and adding to my story. His goal of pages was 250. He was not going to let up on me and kept encouraging me to write about more then I cared to put on paper. On Cyndy's nineteenth birthday, Dr. White went to church with my family for Cyndy's birthday and to hear Katie my youngest daughter play on her Viola "Blessed Assurance".
As Katie was playing Blessed Assurance, I turned and looked at Dr. White when I noticed that he had tears streaming down his cheeks. He told me to look at the words of the song. "Just look at the words." Dr White asked then "What can we do to change the name of the book to Cyndy's Blessed Assurance?" "How can we bring the song into the book?" From that time on we changed the name and with in a couple years of doing that we began using the stanzas as chapter titles.
Even after Gina and Tag Tuck left the area Mark ny dear beloved and our Pastor Mark Bender, and Dr. White kept me focus on the book and became one of my number one cheer leaders.
Thank You Dr. White for being there for me and helping through writing this book. I am glad to have you as my coauthor! You will always have a very close place in my heart.
